next to the tuff country arm designed for a 4" lift

i started with cherokee spring that ended up being too short for my 4" drop brackets, so i ended up going with skyjacker's 6" cherokee coils. after installing those i ended up with terrible steering angles and a major problem.

when driving forward the suspension would max out (tires would pull together \ / ) and when backing up it would do the opposite / \

way too much toe in from the lift being too high for the typical drop pitman arm. so i decided to install a longer pitman arm since i am contemplating a solid axle i wanted to fix the problem for as little $$ as possible. after looking at the prices for the skyjacker extreme arm i said eff it and made my own from the stock arm.

cast welds very nicely when heated up with a torch and using a high nickel welding rod

after putting my custom made arm on, the problem flipped, after some toe adjustments it drives awesome... now i just need to get the rear lifted up lol

we'll see how long the arm holds up, hopefully long enough to get my sas parts put together. its not quite as beefy as the skyjacker arm and it is a tad bit longer but i think it will hold up fine, its not gonna get a ton of abuse. the welder it definately paying for itself now ;)

I'm sure others will disagree but I like your solution, it's what insurance adjusters would hate.
Richard
P.S. I don't like insurance adjusters

Good thing Beaverton is 2528 miles away from my family.

I'm not dogging on your welding abilities but 2 butt welds on the single piece that runs your entire steering is definately a no-no. I don't care if you v-notched it or pre-heat it, there's just some things you don't mess with. I'm a fabricator by trade and hobby and I wouldn't run that even if I welded it.

its not butt welded lol, and my dad is a licensed welder...

but i do understand the concern and will be checking it daily for any cracking.

i shouldve taken pictures through the process that way you guys couldve seen the peices and welding that went into it... it is tig

I'd see if you can find someone to take that arm, put it in some sort of mold, and cast it into one solid piece.

thats a sweet idea, skyjacker could have some competition for a rbv pitman arm lol

just to re emphisize, its just a temp till i get my sas put together. also its not my dd, hell it hasnt moved more than a couple blocks in the past 2 months.. pretty sad actually

Consider yourself lucky if you even see a crack before it snaps off.
