Steering hose leak

Got new steering hoses in after some wrastling. The cut outs in the fender liner make it all possible.
But the pump return hose at the pump is leaking-badly. Looking back, I think that this has been weeping for some time.
Tomorrow I am going to give the fitting a good clean with brake cleaner, maybe some grit on the mating surfaces?
I am thinking of using Permatex Black as a sealant.
Any tips?
Thanks again,
Dan

On second thoughts an o-ring may seal the fitting better than goop.

Aren't those flare nut fittings? High pressure hoses usually are. If so, then Permatex isn't going to help you. You need to make sure the connectors are clean and the flares aren't cracked.

I cleaned up the connection, put in an o-ring and no more leaks.

Thanks! I also put in an inline filter on the return hose and the correct Type F ATF. It whined at first but is now back to normal.
My PS pump whines some, I wonder if it has the wrong fluid in it. :icon_confused:
