Need help with knowing how to tighten up the steering column. Has a little play, no lift or anything on it. Need to replaced? or is there a way to tighten something up?

In the engine bay check the rag joint (an odd rubber version of a u-joint) and where the rounded square shaft is clamped.

If your steering wheel flops around and you have tilt wheel, take the coverings off and you will notice there are two bolts that like to back out. Twister did a nice write up for it in the submit info for tech library section.

You can also get play in the wheel from the tie rod ends if they are worn...they tend to flop around a bit before they actually push/pull the wheels...this is something that needs a replacement part PDQ before something lets go...but they do need quite a bit of force to actually fly apart...unless to the top nut has backed off all the way...which is almost impossible without human intervention...
