Recently purchased 1990 4.0 with half a steering column in it and need to swap the one from my 1990 2.9 into. Can someone help me out maybe post a thread on removal and installation ? Thanks
Step 1... Raise hood
step 2 ... Remove bolt connecting steering column to rag joint
step 3 ... inside cab pull back the carpet and take the 5 bolts out of the plate where steering column goes through firewall
step 4 ... take metal cover off lower dash (where hood release is) 2 or 4 screws...
step 5 ... take plastic cover off bottom of steering column 2 screws
step 6... take out 2 large bolts that hold steering column to dash
step 7... carefully unplug all wiring harness plugs
step 8 ... pull steering column out of truck
step 9 .. reinstall reverse above steps
step 10.... drink cold beer (This step can be inserted anyplace and at anytime during above steps. Can also be repeated as needed.)
DONE!
Note: In case you aren't smart enough to figure it out... Step 1 changes to Close hood on the reinstall
Anytime man... Remember that repeating step 10 too many times can make you need to read the note about step 1.
I was dreading pulling the steering column when I rebuilt my truck. Turns out I had it out in about 20 minutes. And a good portion of that was tracking down a lost socket.
