Starting problems

I have a 97 Ranger 2.3l auto. The power steering line blew, so I just had it replaced and I sprayed some degreaser in the engine bay to clean out the fluid, and gave it a light spray down with water. Now when I try to start the truck it rapidly clicks. The battery is fine and the posts are nice and clean. The starter itself is fine. Is the problem likely the solenoid? Could it be some type of grounding issue? The funny thing is that the truck will start intermittently, but mostly it will just do the rapid clicking.

Thanks.

did you spray it down with a hose you probably diconscted something check all your elecetrical connections but you are getting a crank so i dont know im not the best of help but my intentions are good

First thing is the battery, double check your "Nice and Clean Terminals".
Then more to the other connections in the starting system, if the vehicle has a panel mounted solenoid, this is doing the clicking and it suggests either a bad power connection or a bad ground, check the grounding of the Solenoid as well as the power connections and move on to the starter and all connection there.

If the clicking is loud and fast then it has to be a bad connection some where in the starting system.

Take your time and do it right, clean all of the connection, get to bare metal if corrosion is there and use a good conductive anti-corrosion paste on all connections; also use external tooth star lock washer where you can.

luck
