I have a 1995 2.3l that is giving me some starting issues. When I turn the key I hear the starter motor spin but the truck does not crank over at all. I had the battery tested at walmart and it came back good. I had autozone test the starter and they said it came back good as well. They even said the bendex is popping out fine. I got a new battery at the recommendation of autozone thinking I am not getting enough amps to push the bendex out enough. Still the same starter spin/no crank issue. I checked the flywheel and no missing teeth or anything. All the cables and connections are clean. Could it actually be the starter and the bendex just isn't coming out enough to engage the flywheel....even though autozone said it was? Any other ideas or suggestions would be great.

If you hear the starter motor and engine doesn't turn then starter gear is either not being pushed out or gear is no longer locked on to motors shaft

In either case it is a start motor mechanical issue, so "motor" works if tested, just no mechanical link to ring gear(flywheel/flexplate) when motor spins
Since "they" said gear "popped out" then most likely it is no longer attached to the shaft, at least attached enough to turn the engine

Thanks for the reply. I will take the battery back and see about getting a new starter. Hopefully that does the trick.

Edit: New starter did the trick. Started right up. Now I am having issues with a bad shake/vibration while driving. Cant get the truck over 10mph without feeling like the thing is going to shake apart. No idea what this could be so I may have to start a new thread if I cant figure it out.
