drove my truck this morning running alright as usual. it usually fires right up no problem but lately it turns over a few more times than usual but still fires up. got home fine then when a buyer came to look at the truck it started but sounded really weak before it fired up. then i turned the truck off. then we went to go for a test drive and it wouldnt start. just lots of clicking noise. coming from i think the computer next to the air filter. any suggestions? i have a 89 ranger for parts so can i use anything from that for this problem? any help would be awesome! thanks...

Sounds like the battery or alternator are going dead. Charge the battery for a bit or put a new one in. It sounds like the battery slowly died...

Good luck with it.

Ben

Make sure the battery connections are clean and tight and if the battery is good it sounds like the alternator and if both are good I'd say starter or bad battery cables.

uh oh... so tryed jump starting it, nothing. cleaned battery connections, then try jump start with car and almost started. tried again but still nothing. then i put another battery in it from a car and messed up by connecting pos to neg and neg to pos, saw a spark then nothing, before when i would turn the key the check engine light and other lights would light up and the rpm needle would drop, now nothing happens no noise nothing. tryed my battery and nothing. did connecting the wrong way mess something up even more?

You most likely fried a fusible link over on the right side fender, check those.

i really dont know what to look for, where thats at, or what to do to fix it...

Found On Road Dead.
over it...

Not the trucks fault if you connected the terminals to the wrong post. Look in the tech library for electrical diagram. Find the above mentioned fusible link and replace. Or buy a haynes manual or something with diagrams and put a new link in.

fusible link on the right side fender, does that mean drivers side or passenger?

Passenger. There are some on the drivers side IIRC. I would really recommend a Helm Inc. diagram that shows where all of this is. Haynes only shows the circuit and the wiring colors are usually wrong for the application. Too broad.

cool, found the fusible links just need to figure out which one is blown.
