The starter had been acting up on me these past couple of days. I thought it was just going bad. Last night it wouldn't crank the engine at all, just spin the starter. Got underneath to hit it with a wrench (isn't that the proper way to fix a bad starter) and I notice the whole starter move. Turns out the two bolts that held the starter on where barely in. I am lucky to still have a starter at all. Strange thing is I check both the bolts and they where fine. They had just decided to back out. Guess it's time to buy some lock-tight.

That happened to me once.My '85 Bronco sounded funny when I went to start it one morning.Upon further inspection both starter bolts where on the ground and the starter was hanging. The headers prevented it from being taken out.In my case I think someone was trying to steal it.

I had them back out several times on my old 2.9, once when I was up camping both bolts fell out, luckily I was parked on a hill and bump started it and drove back to camp. I then found one of my bumper bolts was a perfect match and put it in there.

Never had that happen with any of my cars or trucks!!!! Vibrations form tires or drive shafts maybe??

I've had one work itself out...also the ground wire on the starter came loose a few times before I applied super human strength to the bolts...
