Hey i have an 89 2.9L and my starter solenoid wount kick the gear in to the flywheel. I took off the solenoid cover and it wasnt gummed up and it seemed to move freely. anybody have any suggestions?

If the starter is spinning but not engaging the flywheel pull it off and check the drive. It should be free one direction and lock the other. I am not sure how many parts stores keep starter drives any more most want to sell you a rebuilt starter. Greg

Hey i've checked all my electrical connections and everything is good no corrosion or loose connections it must be the terminals inside the starter i'm gonna pull it apart tommorow and clean everything up

the starters that the 2.9 came with do not have an internal solenoid. they have an engagement inside them, the solenoid is on the fender, there are no contacts inside the starter. chances are there are some worn or broken parts inside the starter.
