Starter Help!

Im wiring up my 4.0 and have a quick question

I have the battery wires all hooked up but nothing computer hooked up.

all my interior lights and cd player all work

Should the starter turn over the engine with nothing computer hooked up?

Yes.

The starter is only controlled by the starter solenoid (on the starter itself if it's a GM style starter), the starter thingy on the fender well (I admit I forgot what it's called), and the ignition cylinder rod thingy.

It should crank, but not fire up and run.

Are you having problems? Or was that just a curious question?

Yes Im having problems, But I'm thinking it wont turn over because of the clutch switch that knows when it is pushed in? Yes?

I cant push it in right now because of the new trans. The clutch hose is not connected. I cant get the "quick" connect to connect lol

the clutch interlock switch is on the clutch pedal....you should still be able to turn the motor even with no clutch (just make sure its in neutral!)

Actually, it's a relay. A solenoid is an electrical device that performs a mechanical function. The solenoid is on the starter, i.e., it electrically pulls a mechanical plunger that engages the starter drive gear.

A relay simply makes an electrical connection.

When used with the later PMGR starters, it acts as a current limiter to the starter. shady

You would have to jump the clutch safety switch in order for the starter to turn over. If the switch is connected properly, and your not able to push the pedal to the floor the starter will not even try to turn.

Yeah yeah yeah I know the relay. I have everything connected and working right (headlights, turn signals, CD player, Dash) except no computer in it. I Literally cannot push the clutch pedal in. Because the hose that connects to the trans. is not connected.

My truck never started unless the clutch was pushed in, even if it was in neutral...
when I get home from work, Ill try and Bypass the switch...

I am wiring the 4.0 Comp harness into the existing body harness
