My credo
If you don't have time to do it right will you have time to do it over?
My son sent me this, I think because I built my Ranger with an automatic- using the C4 I took out of the last car I swapped to a T5. I've never built a vehicle with an automatic before.

Lol, pretty much has always been my attitude. I gotta say though that the 5R44E in my Ranger has won me over - the damn thing shifts just as I would want it to, even skipping gears sometimes. Now that I’m not using it as a daily driver and my dd has a manual again, I’m even happier it’s an auto. It’s good to have one auto in the family anyway.

I think my problem with older autos was the limited shift control logic from traditional valve bodies.

If you think the 5r is a nice trans, you need to drive something with the new 10spd.

Way back when I wanted to put a clutch in place of the torque converter. Never miss a shift...
I don't know if it would have been as good as I hoped.

An automatic is way better than a manual
An automatic is way worse than a manual

A manual trans is the middle line for comparison, its not the best and not the worst, it quite literally is the "standard" transmission

An automatic is stronger, can shift faster, and requires less driver attention when in use than a manual trans

An automatic has way more moving parts and requires fluid pressure to work, so more likely to have break downs than a manual trans

My C5 was probably my favorite driving automatic.

No learning crap to water it down. Nice crisp shifts right when needed the same way every time.

Without a tune my 4R70W mushes around at first and gets halfway tolerable as it learns me. With a tune my 4R70W starts out really nice and waters it self down to be halfway tolerable.

I sure like driving a manual although for racing and towing applications I'll never go back to one. My next rock crawler will be an automatic too.

We need a better name for it, "manual" just sounds so work oriented

I say we call it a NOmatic transmission, so you think of traveling, like a nomad wandering the highways and back roads of the planet, not tied to a transmission shop, you know "just in case"

I'll take an automatic for the WIN please.

"automatic" is already in use for a lessor transmission type, so can't be used because of copyright infringement

"No soup for you,................NEXT"
