95 XLT 2.3 auto 2wd. last fall the truck started acting like I had bad gas. dropped tank; real clean. ok, new filter, fresh gas. still did it. suggestions included fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump. dropped tank again, new pump. problem gone (that's how I spent my Christmas morning)
today it started doing it again. limped 40 miles back from the Lake Mirra Classic show, stalling every time I had to come to a stop. I could keep it running if I could keep the rpm's up while braking.
below the battery is a square box/canister with a hose that leads to a pipe between the 1st and 2nd intake runners. there are 2 devices with wires connected to the hose. the hose was split so I put a new hose on. the truck starts but i'm not doing a test ride in the dark.
my questions are; what is the canister? pollution device? and what do the 2 electric things in the hose do? (and what are they called).
in 2 weeks I will be driving sixty miles each way to work, instead of the 2 1/2miles I now drive. having just swapped trannies, put on new tires and mounted the receiver hitch, I am getting tired of working on this truck. I need reliability

Pics of said cannister?

Sounds like the charcoal canister that is used for a fuel dump for excess vapor from the tank...but without pics I'm not sure...

Anyway...if replacing the fuel pump resolved a similar issue last year...then it could be the same problem all over...I replaced my Tempo fuel pump four or five times in the 14 years I drove it...only major PITA with that car...

Could also be the inertia switch...try bypassing that..should be up under the passenger side foot well...

The inertia switch shuts down the fuel pumps during rear collisions, but is also a PITA because it can cause intermittent fuel supply issues when it is wonky...

However, could also be just a fuel filter that needs to be replaced or other issues with fuel pressure...

did some hard driving today to get to the VA hospital for an appointment. truck ran great
all I have done to it is change the hoses between the charcoal canister and the intake and swap the inertia switch (I have a parts truck)
now I am just going to drive and hope

Good to hear...thanks for the update~
