stalling out under load at 2500 rpm

so i just put a new motor in my 88 ranger and its was running hot for the first few days because of cooling issues when it got a little hot it started to stall out but not die at 2500 to 3000 rpm only under load. it almost seems like a bad tfi module but im not sure i need help
