Stalling issue I can't diagnose

I'll consider that. Update is that I'm ignorant and didn't secure the float bar to the needle valve. Still hesitates when you first accelerate but fights through it and sometimes backfires. I can't find a vacuum leak. I have a manual choke. It runs though, so whatever.

The computer looked at a bunch of sensors and then calculated what the timing should be and told the distributor when to fire. Your distributor is fairly dumb, relying on the computer to control the timing. If your computer system is not working correctly, the dumb distributor you have will still run the engine, but the timing will just be locked at 10 BTDC or whatever it was set at last. Your engine will run poorly and have lousy fuel mileage.

The older pinto or Mustang II distributor for the 2.8 has mechanical advance weights inside it, along with a vacuum advance unit to control the timing.
