Stall/sputter

No need to buy a code reader. You can do that with a test light.

You need to find out if it's stalling/sputtering on just one cylinder or on all/random. That will lead in the right direction as to what the problem may be.

My truck started missing intermittently & idling rough earlier. I pulled the vacuum line off the FPR & it ran great after that. I guess im getting a new FPR tomorrow. Pull the line & see if it runs different.

Ok FPR is fuel pressure regulator right? And where is that located?

Yes, Fuel Pressure Regulator. As you are facing the motor it is just to the front right (drivers side) of the distributor. You'll see the fuel line going into it. On the back side of it (toward the firewall) you'll see a small vacuum line that goes from the FPR to a steel line just above it. Unplug that line & start the truck & see if it runs different.

Ok I found it. One thing though. Mine only had two lines coming off it, one on the front and one on the top. There was a nub on the back, but idk if there was supposed to be anything there. There's no vaccum going in or out of it, but the nub might be sealed or plugged up

? :icon_confused:

It should have the fuel line from the fuel filter going into the front of the regulator. The return line comes off of the fuel rail IIRC. There should be a vac line that goes into the back of the regulator that goes up to the vac "T" off of the brake booster vac that comes from the upper intake.

If you do not have a vacuum line attached. That could be your whole issue.

If your's is not like this, post up a pic!

X2!

Ok I think I may have found one issue. Other than the FPR. Today I replaced the pcv valve and grommet, coil, and fuel filter.
When I finished this I thought hey nows a good time to fix my windshield washer fluid sprayer thing. Which I found out it's not working because the electric plug is corroded on the inside, the two pins and holes.
Anyways, I was looking at the TPS, and just juggling it around and, without disconnecting it, I was able to manipulate the engine. I think the wires going into the harness that plugs on to the TPS need to be cleaned up and and tightened. I think that may be one issue.
Anyways Ill try to post up a picture of the FPR, if I can figure out how to. Ill try to post around 930 or 10 am.

I took the picture but I don't know how to load it, I'm using my iPhone

Ok so update for the day. I cleaned up the TPS wires that were loose, helped slightly. I also changed the fuel filter. After I replaced the filter, I put the plate back over, put the inertia switch back, and reset it. I put the Neg battery cable back on, and started the truck. It started fine, no issues. Then as it idled down, it started hunting again. 500-1000-500-1000-500-250-500-250- dead. And it hasn't started since. When I turn the key I can can hear the starter solenoid, the one by the battery, it makes one loud click, and that's it. Did I do something wrong? I realize the issue isn't fixed with the stall/sputter, I'm going to get a vaccuum gauge and start testing things. But I don't know where to start. And lol I think I need to get her started first.

Well, 1st make sure your cables are nice & tight, then take a voltmeter & make sure your battery is good. It should measure at least 13.5V. Then test the wire going to the starter from the solenoid (or at the starter itself, but be careful) & have some one crank the ignition to start. If you get your voltage at the starter, but its not cranking then your starter just went out. If the voltage is not getting past the solenoid, then your solenoid is bad. Have you tried unplugging the FPR vacuum line yet?

Yes I tried unplugging the vacuum line, and it raised the rpms. But when I did a throttle test it still did the stalling/sputter. I also did the same test while plugging with my finger. Same thing.

I think I might have killed my battery. After thinking if all the starting I did yesterday, testing different things I was doing, I don't thinking let it run long enough to recused the batt

ok heres the pic for the FPR
