i see some off road rigs with a stack in the bed, do they do this for deep water crossing or does it make a difference if water gets in the exhaust, i know i have got stuck in deep waterholes and when the truck stalled the water entered the engine through the exhaust. should i be worried about that every time a go deep water crossing.

dont kill the motor and you'll be alright :icon_thumby:

even if you do kill the motor, you have to be in pretty deep for water to pull back into the chambers.

i honestly have no idea but you can only imagine a stack would be a better idea.. you'll get a lot of shit from people for putting it on a gas ranger but overall it'll possibly be a good investment.. but i may be wrong

Well,

Speaking from experience....

I USED TO work for National, a car rental company.
And we were allowed to take vehicles for our breaks in the evening.
So I look a Ford F250 Super Duty, figured I could pick up some mcdonalds, and head out to the river to do some mudding (bagging)

After getting a good layer of mud all over the truck I went to go and leave, and I was having some trouble with a bunch of ruts (that I had created)
So I went around through the water..............bad idea

When the front tires hit a deep spot in the river I panicked and hit the gas to power out of it, another bad idea as the water only got deeper.
When water started coming through the doors I knew I was in trouble so I climbed out the window and stood on the roof to call some buddies for help.

Truck was doing fine still running like a deer from some drunk hicks chasing it in a field lit by the headlights.

It was fine for about 2 hours till the river rose and water entered through the air filter and killed it.

called my boss, company had the truck towed, Truck was a write off and I got fired..

The only thing Ive learned so far is stock fords dont float.

The damage to the tailgate, and the Windshield are from the chains that snapped and whipped back at the truck.

There is also chain marks on the roof..

the water in your case came in through the INTAKE and hydrolocked the motor. water in the intake is bad...water in the exhuast is irrelivent.

I would never take a rental car and mud it, especially if I worked at the rental company.

and as long as the stack is higher then the water your going through I would say go for it. (Exhaust on one side of the cab, snorkel on the other... and a good set of windshield wipers.)
