Squeaking steering wheel is very annoying.:icon_idea:

I have a 1986 Ford Ranger 2.3 / 5-speed.

I guess the "1986" is a dead giveaway as to this truck being somewhat of an antiquity, so it does not surprise me that things have started to creak and squeal.

Whenever I'm driving, or just sitting still, when I turn the steering wheel in any direction, it squeals. Sounds like it's coming for that space between the front of the column and where the steering is connected to it.

Am I stuck with this, or is there anything 'safe', I can spray to stop this noise?

WD-40, or Blaster Lubricant, 3-1 Oil? Thank you for restoring my sanity!

Thanks!
BTW...I have no ABS brakes or power steering in this truck.

where on the steering wheel? is it just squeeking when you're parked? when you're driving? when you turn it?

if it's squeeking when it's parked and you're outside of the truck, you might have a mouse problem

lol, mouse problem

I think yours does what mine does...That is squeek when you turn the wheel. You hear it inside of the cab right? Honestly, I've never messed with mine but some kind of liquid lubricant sprayed between the wheel and the steering column (where they meet) would most likely take care of it.

SORRY.....

So it's safe to say that any spray would work? ( blaster Lubricant or WD-40)

still doesn't change the fact that some vehicles have abs vehicle speed sensors...

Mine sweaked something fierce. I pulled the wheel, the plastic ring around the collum and the two halves of the collum trim. There I could see the bearing and I threw some oil on it. The tilt part of the wheel flopped all over too, I took one of the switches off (I forget if it was the signal or wiper switched) and tightened it up too.

mine did that pretty bad to but after about a month of driving it it stoped

The horn contacts behind the steering wheel needs some lubrication. That is where I found my annoying squeak.
