yeah it leaks a little oil and really squeaks on a damp day squeaking all the time now dry or wet and goes away after about 20 minutes of driving. Is this what happens when a timing cover crank seal goes bad ? it's only got about 5,0000 klms on the new seal/motor. Any one else had a similar problem ? sqeak will stop if I spray wd-40 on it and then comes right back ????

are you sure its not the belts or pullies there?

make sure all 5 bolts in there are tight. then rub some bar soap on the belts one at a time (it silences a squeaky belt for some hrs to a month or so ) adjust belt tention as needed.

NO OIL of any kind in the pulley groves. V-belts rely on friction, caused by the bent belt applying pressure to the sides of the groves, to operate properly.
And I don't think a squeak would come from an oil seal unless it is about to fail real soon.

The damper pulley has a steel inner and outer with a rubber section between them. I have seen a few lately where the bonding fails and the outer section rotates. If you make a chalk mark from the center to the outer of the pulley and them run the motor for a few seconds. If the bonding has failed it will be evident by the line being non continuous any more. Ive never seen one fail on a rbv but anythings possible.

I'm running an 86 aerostar 2.8 serpentine system and just checked the jobber shop and they have the same part # I guess it's the front crank seal. I'm going to school now and will have to take this to a shop to get done I don't have the time right now. Thanks for the educated trouble shootin guys ! much appreciated. I have another ques but I'll start a new thread.
