Sport / Off-Road difference.

I'm really just wondering what the difference is between a ranger sport and a ranger off road. If anyone could tell me, that'd be great!

Equipment varies a little bit by year, but basically a 4x4 Sport got you body color bumpers, fog lights, and 16" wheels. An Off-Road Package (ORP) kept the regular chrome bumpers and got you fog lights, 16" wheels, skidplates, and teeth-rattling off-road shocks.

I used to have an '02 ORP. It was fantastic off-road but very tiring to drive every day because of the incredibly stiff ride (compared to the '99 Ranger XLT 4x4 I had before). Roads here aren't very smooth to begin with.

So basically the Sport did not include off-road shocks or skidplates.

Contrary to popular belief, the ORP did not include a limited-slip rear. It was optional and my '02 had one.

Offroad (aka: FX4) also has a LS rear diff and 4.10's instead o 3.73's and you get twotone paint job...

As stated before the ORP had an optional L/S, it wasn't standard. You probably had the choise of those two gear ratios but I don't think one was standard.

One of my college roomates had a 2000 Off Road with the 4.0 and a really neat color orange paint job that was all one color. It might have had gray plastic flares (I don't remember) but that doesn't count as a 2 tone.

What are the differences between the FX4 and the Edge? Is the edge pretty much a sport?
An Edge is pretty much a Sport. Then about two years ago they called it a Sport again. They both had the appearance goodies but lack the hardware underneath that an FX4 and an ORP have.

My Sport came with 4.10s and a LS, it may have been an option though. Sports also have rubber floors, white face gauges, and those cool fender flares. :headbang:
