so now im thinking about getting some geared axles from a 79 bronco, but the only problem is i want to keep it road safe but the rear axle is spooled. should i try to regear the 9 inch or should i look for a full size 8.8 with disks and gear that? do they have limited slip, or a matching bolt pattern? what about driveshafts flanges, and u joints?

You could take the spool outta the 9". You can just buy a limmited slip for the 9 A fullsize 8.8 wont have discs unless its off a 97-up f150 and then it wont have the same bolt pattern.

cool, thanks for confirming that, yeah i think ill stick with the 9 inch and limited slip or an aussie locker if its not too expensive, but i was told the spool couldnt be taken out, it was all one peice, does this sound right or is it probably just lincoln locked?

a full spool is one peice. Id run it. Ive had spooled rear ends for almost 5yrs.

A spool an me taken out Its the same as a carrier. You will just have to buy a whole limmited slip carrier or locker unit and pull the spool out. I wouldnt run the spool if you street drive the truck if its only for off road then leave it in there

allright so i can keep the gears that is has, remove the spool and install a limited slip or lunchbox locker? im giving out rep points. thanks.
by the way 1badexplorer do you still have the 73-79 ford coil buckets for sale, if there not to rusted out, send me pics ill probably by them from you.
