I recently completed a ford 8.8 swap in my 91 ranger. it has the disk breaks but I'm having an issue with my pedal having no response until its a ways into its stroke. i was thinking my stock mater cylinder isn't pushing enough fluid to cope with the new calipers, does that sound right or is there other things i should check out.

My guess is you still have air in the system. Disc brakes require no adjustments that cause a low pedal like drum brakes would. An improper sized master wouldn't cause a low pedal... it would result in excessive pedal pressure having to be used.

A long shot perhaps... but I've seen where calipers were installed on the wrong side and the bleeders are actually on the bottom which allows air to be trapped in the caliper.

I would suggest looking over every connection to ensure you have no leaks and give them another complete bleeding.

You still have air in the system. Keep bleeding until it firms up.

Agreed, there is still air in the system somewhere.

i took a look at it last night and realized that when i put the calipers on the axle was out of the truck and flipped around so the bleeders were in fact on the bottom.

There ya go... not the first time I've seen that happen.

That would do it for sure, the explorer 8.8 disc brake axle in my '90 works perfect with all stock components...

My '85 hydraulics worked great with my disk brake 8.8 until I added the dual piston front calipers.
