Yes, replacing the bearings makes alot of sense since they were under the same horrific conditions that caused the spindle to break.

How in the...

What in the...

Actually I would have expected to see the bearings burned up...

what happened to snap the spindle?

Rock bouncing would do that.

I guess if you go rock bouncing in your 2WD... it is a possibility.

Or an over torqued spindle nut.

All kinds of people do all kinds of things. I'm not here to judge that.

Hold my beer and watch this...

THANX!
I REPLACED BEARINGS, BRAKE PADS (LEFT ONE I COULD CHIP OFF PIECES WITH MY FINGER. LIKELY BC OF THE SPINDLE BREAK) & SPINDLES. PRETTY EASY JOB, TIME CONSUMING.
SO AT 1ST I COULD NOT WRAP MY HEAD AROUND HOW THE F*** I BROKE THE STEEL SPINDLE?? BB IS ONLY 2WD, & THE MOST OFF-ROADISH I'VE EVER GONE IS *WHIPPING A SHITTY IN THE FLAT DIRT FIELD ACROSS FROM MY HOUSE*:sneaky: I GOT BB FOR MY BDAY JAN. 2018. THAT SUMMER MY P.O.S. EX BLEW THE ENGINE!! SHORTLY AFTER I HAD A RUN IN & NEEDED NEW HEADS, JUST HAD THE TRANNY REBUILT OCT. 2020. **MY DAD HAS HIS OWN SHOP IN RVCA** I'M CURRENT ON OIL CHANGES, FLUIDS I ALWAYS CHECK. SHE'S MY PRIDE & JOY! YET AFTER TALKING WITH SUSPENSION SPECIALISTS (where I purchased spindle kit) my DRIVEWAY SEEMS THE LIKELY CULPRIT....ALONG WITH NORMAL WEAR & TEAR.

Something doesn't sound right, I've never seen a spindle snap off like that without a severe impact. If it was a metal defect it wouldn't have lasted this long. I hope it never happens to you again.

I've seen one snapped like that before. When discussing how the heck it happened, after swearing he never went offroad or hit anything he mentioned how he just properly torqued the spindle nut to 60 ft lbs...

but didn't that ruin the bearing, Dirtman?

The gease was burnt to toast but the bearings weren't actually chewed up. The spindle just snapped clean off at the end of the threads similar to what the OP showed. This was on an 80's C-10 but they have the same style spindles/bearings. The guy aparently torqued it based on the 4x4 hub nut torque specs which is 60 some foot pounds not the 2wd procedure which is only 10 INCH pounds. It only made it a few miles before it let go.
