Anybody got any ides?
'96 4cyl 4x4 stick - I'll be driving along and the speedometer just drops to 0. then It'll start working again the next time I drive???

ok been a while, still doing it!

most likely a bad vehicle speed sensor (VSS). located in the rear differential, right on top of the hump.

In the rear diff? Doesnt it pick up the speed in the tranny? I swapped out the abs diff for a posi unit out of my Capri. you think thats the prob?

mine did it too. i took the gauges out and cleaned all the connections. works fine now!

mine would stop/start working when i would punch the dash....

you know, it might be the one at the trans case...i cant remember.

i guess you could unplug it and move the truck....if the speedo doesnt work at all then you'll know.

Yeah, on the rear diff I think its for the ABS sensor not the speedo.

I havnt tried punching the dash yet, I guess I'll just pull out the guages and see what I got.

speedo prob

some of those electro speedometers reset if you turn them off a while then turn them on...why?...i don't know...maybe it re-boots the computer?...

Old-style speedometer?

If it has those little wheels that go round and round, maybe it needs some greece in the cable???
