Speedometer Issues

Does anyone know if a speedometer from an 87 will work in my 85 b/c i changed my cable but my needle is still shaky so i'm thinking it's the little gear in the speedo and i'd rather just toss the whole assembly in than take them apart to get to the gear!!!:buttkick:
