Speedo question

Yesterday I test fitted the 4.0 cluster into the 83. While doing this I noticed I'd have to reroute the cable since the 4.0 cluster speed guage is in the center not the right side like the 83 cluster. Well its going to be too short, does anyone know where to find an extension it only needs to be 6 inches longer. Otherwise, I guess I'll need to install a longer cable. But that's harder lol.

Dakota digital makes extension cables. Check summit to see if they have one for a Ford of that Era.

The extension goes at the transfer case/transmission end of the speedo cable, then you pull the cable forward to get more cable behind cluster
May need to redrill a hole in firewall, speedo cables are not very bendable

Thank you well darn I would just install the explorer one than. However I did contact Dakota digital to see if it's something that's possible to do an extension at the dash side

The older Cruise Controls had 2 speedo cables
One from trans to Cruise module in engine bay
One from cruise module to speedo<<<shorter cable

Probably hard to find one of the shorter cables, but any older Ford(pre-1985) in wrecking yard with cruise would have one
And if memory serves you could use a coupler to by-pass cruise module if it failed, but been quite a few years, lol
