Before I pull the cluster, does a 2002 ranger have a speedo cable or is it electronic. I have a
clicking in the cluster area that almost sounds like a relay. The clicking goes away when I come to a stop. The speedo needle isn't jumping. Thanks

Electronic, but I have no idea what is causing your clicking.

Yes, '02 uses VSS(vehicle speed sensor) and no cable('94 was last year of speedo cable), since noise stops when you do, it could be the electric motor that drives the odometer.

Good pictures here: http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/spring2009/odometer.htm
Also a test for speedo motor using AA battery, to see if it clicks

And here: http://www.therangerstation.com/Magazine/Fall2008/odometer_worm_gear.htm
You will see the plastic gears for odometer, my guess is that is where clicking is coming from.

To confirm it is in this odometer setup you could unplug the VSS sensor and drive truck forward a bit and see if clicking is still there, you will get CEL and ABS light.
I believe VSS sensor was on the rear axle from '98 and up

Hey thanks for the help. Wouldn't surprise me if the speedo motor is bad at 110,000 miles.. There are plenty of ranger clusters to be had. But seeing I'm the pnly one driving it I'll live with it. Little annoying
just need to turn the radio up HAHA!

It actually would surprise me if the speedo motor was bad. There are a hell of a lot more 98+ Rangers with the same speedo setup and a lot more miles, with no problems. That said anything is possible and just because one truck has (or doesn't have) a problem, the rest of them won't necessarily be the same.
