I have a 1997 Mazda B4000 4x4. A few months ago it started bucking at a steady speed. Changed the plugs and wires before realizing it was the Speed Sensor's Gear (plastic). Well recently it started to do this again. Did anybody else have this problem? Can anybody tell me why this gear keeps getting worn? Thanks for your help!!:D

ive never seen a VSS cause any sort of drivability problems...are you absolutely sure thats the problem?

yes, once its changed the bucking quits. Runs like a new ride, until iy gets worn again anyway.

Bad cable? That's all I can think of

Would that cause the gear to wear? I changed the gear again Monday because it was starting to buck every now and then, i would drive 29mi to work and it would do it once, so I put a new gear and it was bucking every mile or so. So yesterday I put the old gear back and now I can at least use it with it only doing it once or twice sometimes not at all.

theres no cable on a '97. the VSS drive inside the transmission is probably worn.

you could do it. youll have tro split the transfer case yourself.

RBV transfer cases are so cheap and plentiful, id probably just throw a junkyard case in it rather than mess with a worn case.

Any Suggestions

Well today I tired to order the drive gear and Mazda and Ford say its discontinued . I called the local salvage yards to see about getting a transfer case....zippo..........any suggestions websites maybe?
