speed issues

Hey guys I'm new here and not sure if I'm posting this in the right place, so I apologize if I am. I have a 90 ranger xlt m5r1 2.9 4wd and I was wondering if 3000 rpm in 5th at 55mph was normal and if it's not is it because my truck is geared low or is something wrong? I do have the classic whine except in 4th and neutral but i will have to wait till it goes out to fix it. From what I've read that doesn't cause anything like I have. Thanks for your help.

Sounds like low gears unless the the clutch is slipping. Mine runs 2100 rpm at 55 with a little larger then stock tires. It only runs around 2700 rpm at 65.

Alright thanks i appreciate it i've only had this truck for a month and i already have to deal with a mystery rear end that doesnt even have a rabs sensor on it

Your speedo could be off also if someone replaced the rear with one with diff gears.

If your rear doesnt have abs it was swapped with a 88 or older unit, i did this b/c i got a great deal on one with 4.1s adn a posi. When my truck was stock, 373s and 215 tires, i was at 2000 rpm at 55 in 5th, and maybe 2750 at 55 in 4th. Jack it up and check what gear rato u have.

Will do as soon as my wife gets out of hospital i dont know if the gears are different bcuz my 4wd still works the front end still has id tag on it but its covered in rust it has 32in tires on it now
