My spedo has been fluttering pretty badly sence i put indiglo gauges in my truck. i have sence replaced the speed sensor comming off the tranny and replaced the spedometer cable. nothing has worked. so now were should I turn? Also i have noticed an very large drop in fuel mileage. Would this cause it? i have a youtube video here.

drop in mileage could be an illusion since the odometer is not accurate anymore. i've got the same problem. could be the gear in the tranny.

Is there anything else i can check? i dont want to tear apart the tranny unless i have to. Do you think the spedometer itself is at fault?

you said you replaced the speed sensor? it should only be a plastic gear on the end of the speedo cable.

Nope, commin off the tranny theres a speed sensor with a plastic gear on it but not just a spedo cable plugged into tranny.

that plastic gear on the end of the speed sensor is what im talking about. just so you know the sensor has no effect at all on you speed-o since it's cable driven. But that gear on the end of the sensor does, if it's worn it could cause problems. with these cable driven speedometers it'll be that gear, the cable or the gauge.

Mine is doing the same thing, It started doing it after i swapped my cluster for one with a tach, I just assumed it was the gauge since the one i swapped in has 30,000 more miles on it than my old one. Never thought about it throwing the odometer off though Maybe thats why it seems like I get terrible gasmilage.

ok well i just pulled the black gear off the speed sensor and it looks brand new. no chips or anything. yes i did lube the new cable myself when i got it and no, there are no hard turns or bends. I drive exactly 27 miles everyday to and from school. and i have seen an increase in fuel consumtion. before i changed the speed sonsor, the flutterring was much worse. the reason being the inside of the speed sensor was completly rounded out. The question remains though, Could the spedometer itself be at fault?

if the cable and gear are good the speed-o is bad. those are the only 3 peices in the system. you might try lubing the shit outta the cable again and double check for kinks though.

You could try hooking a drill up to spot where the cable plugs in and running the drill at a constant speed and see what the speedo does. The key is to get the drill at a constant speed (maybe zip-tie the trigger?)

My speedo does exactly the same thing!! Except I was driving down the highway and it suddenly jumps to one end of the speedo, then the other, goes back to 65 (I was doing 70) and floats there all the way home (5mph slow)... Now, it's about 3mph fast at 20mph (23mph on speedo=20mph)...
