just thought this thread fit this forum. lol!! the cable on the drivers side of my tailgate broke. has anyone ever had one break on their ranger? i think it broke when my supervisor sat on it when we were haulin a paint sprayer from the jobtrailer over to where we were workin. hes a pretty heavy guy. is this part a dealer item or do i need to go to a junkyard for it?

AutoZone, Advance, O'Reilly...

they're cheap, and plentiful.

moms old 93 had one broken, never replaced it tho, my tailgate seems to have the mounting bases bent tho, one of the cables sits thigh and the other one lose when i open it any sugg how to fix it??

my cables are fine, is the tailgate that has a little bent on the mountings, so one side doesnt go all the way down, leaving one cable abit loose, and the other one with all the weight

yea i had it happen to me get a 1/16th drill bit and some bailing wire. or fine wire. pop off the hatch in the inside of the tailgate drill a hole through the threaded portion of the release rod and run your wire through it and the hole on the latch mechanism and wind it through once or twice and finish with a nice twist knot. if you want run i die over the threads i think its 3/16 coarse if you ever wanna take the wire off and replace it with clips.

but ive fixed em like this before and never had a problem.

When I had my 88 Ranger, one broke, then a week later the other side broke. Same thing happened on an older Silverado I had. Any good parts house will have the cable for you.

RangerSportHonduras- Mine are the same way as yours but the one is stretched. Its pretty hard to bend anything on a Ranger tailgate.... trust me I've tried haha.
