I have a 1996 ranger xlt supercab 3.0. I have the factory amplifier in my truck. I am wondering what size speakers are in the front doors and what size are in the back seat? I am looking at swapping the stock speakers with aftermarket speakers in all four corners and was wondering sizes before I did anything. Thanks Chris.

Walmart sells some nice pioneer 350 watt 4 way 6X8" speakers that will fit your Ranger front and rear.

And the pioneers sound great when hooked to 100 watts each. I had four of them in my single cab with a 400X4 watt vr3 amp

I always use http://www.crutchfield.com to do my preliminary research on outfitting a new system. Gives you all the specs on speaker and head unit sizes and will also list out any brackets you might need. If you've never done a system before it's a decent place to start since they also carry wiring harnesses and will usually chip in a manual made for your rig to swap out head units.

As for what speakers to actually purchase, I'd avoid listening to people who give you a buy "brand" blanket statement. There are brands I do prefer but simply buying pioneer or alpine is not going to get you a great system.

similar question, i have already done my head unit, what are the stock speaker sizes in the doors and rear corners in a 97 standard cab?

5x7 or 6x8 the wall mart pioneers usually fit both. Just have to look at the box they say factory fit for ford. I think they have kickers too

dont know if the sizes are the same but i tried to get a set of rear speakers for my 03 and they were too deep, so check that before you buy too.

Sorry for the double post but I remembered something from my 97 ranger install.

The door panels built in speaker grills are super tight to door frame. I ended up having to make a plywood bracket to recess the mids so they wouldnt hit the panel. I'll see if I have any pictures but this install was from years ago. Also if you plan on wiring the doors with heavier speaker wire you might struggle with getting it into the door.

edit: sorry, misremebering. 6.5" drivers will fit, but you need a bracket. Can't remember how I solved the clearing issue

just ordered through that site, thank you for the help, the 5 1/4 kickers come with adapters to fit the factory hole, do you think that will create enough space to skip the wood spacer step in your pic?

More than likely, yes. I reread my old build thread and I solved the clearing issue by removing some of the inner panel bracing with a dremel. On the finish side of the panel you cant see the difference.
