I found a thread a while back about which spark plugs 3L's like best but could not find it again. If I remember correctly it was an Autolite plug?

My 3.0 likes Accel 516's, which are a heat range colder than stock.

but they have to be double platinum.
No they don't. You can use regular copper plugs as long as you don't mind changing them every 20-30K miles. (I actually prefer to have a look at the plugs at least every 20K miles on an older engine, so copper plugs are just fine for me.)

SixFoFalcon - I thought there was an issue with the wasted spark design of the EDIS system on the 3.0 that required a double tipped plug?

That's what i was told, I'm running single platinums, and it's got a lopping/surging idle, i just don't have the money to change them right now.

I just swapped out to the NGK Iridium plugs and I like them a lot. They seem to be smother then the stock plugs.

Double plats are required on the EDIS because of the different
polarities on the different cylinder banks; meaning that the plug
electodes would wear on one bank while the tips would wear on
the other bank.

Since plug tip erosion is greatly reduced with platinum, that's how
the vehicle mfgs reach the '100K miles before a tune-up is needed'
requirement......

Anyone using Autolite XP104s? They're on sale at a locally owned autoshop, from 7.50ea to 3.99.

Although platinums may physically last for a 100,000 miles, it's been my experience that their performance falls off after 30,000 or so miles, so in my opinion there isn't all that much to be gained by running plats.

I've been running regular plugs in my 3.0 Ranger for over a 100,000 miles now and have had zero problems, so I'm not convinced that platinums are required for EDIS ignition systems.

and love them. I would recommend you go ahead and get them. There is also a rebate form you can print out from Autolite to get $2.00 per plug back via a mail in rebate.
