Alright, so I had my truck apart earlier today to change the plugs and wires. I have 98 ranger 2.5L with a waste spark system (8 plugs). I got all of the plugs changed minus 3 & 4 on the drivers side.
Basically I'm wondering if it is faster/easier to take off the intake or try and work my way around it?? Or is there a different way?

I take off the intake on mine... Supposedly you're supposed to be able to do it without removing the intake... but thats a load of bull in my opinion.

When you take it off, some things to note would be the little coolant hoses on the bottom of the upper intake (at the very least, make sure the cooling system is depressurized, and have some bolts or little dowels handy. You can stick them in the hoses so they aren't douching all the place), and be very careful with the stainless EGR tube. I hear they are brittle, and can crack easily (ask me how i know). I reused all the gaskets and it's all good.

easier: yes/no

faster: no

you can do it with the intake on, its a complete pain in the ass though

just do it with them with the intake inplace......I have done them twice so far. I don't have much of an issue replacing the 2 plugs. I just use a few extentions. The wires are a total pita UNLESS you have the OEM ones with the HOOKS

Get a hose barely larger than the ceramic of the plugs. Put plugs into hose. use this setup to get the plugs started in the hole, and finish with an extension on the ratchet.

I bought a swivel spark plug socket with an extension (all one piece) from autozone. I haven't tried it yet but I've read of a few people using these & it looks like it will work good.
