Spark Plug Change=New Problems

Man now this is gettin confusing. Im runnin down to the junk yard and let you know what i find tonight...

Thank You everyone! For all the help! You guys ROCK

I know its getting absolutely no spark... I can put my finger on it while its running with no shock...Stupid i know.

Are you touching the truck when you do that? You would have to be grounded to your truck to get shocked. I wouldn't be using that for a test method with a modern ignition system, my old dirbike will make your arm almost go numb and it doesn't have half the pop that your 4.0 would.

A simpler (and safer) test is to unplug the wire and start it and see if it runs differently.

I have always taken the boot of wire and held it with a pair of pliers close to the frame or block to see if it will arc to test my wires.

That will work too, but use insolated pliers.

OK soooo I went to the junk yard and pulled off a new coil pack. Installed it in the parking lot. Started her up. HOLY CRAP It runs SOOOOO GOOD! I pulled the boot off of number 5 and it was sparkin all over the place!

OH and I do what 97ranger4x4 does.... with pliers... ANYWHO! Thank you all!

All I can say is WOW now I am VERY impressed with what the 4.0 can do compared to the 2.9

I'd look downinside the coil towers it's actually quite common
for the coil to be corroded inside ONE tower.

Guys, please dont stick your finger on coils on these new vehicles or test using many of the old conventional methods. A lot of newer vehicles have enough juice to KILL you by doing this. And proving yourself right isn't worth your life.
Be safe.

Even when every thing works well

Now that the problem is solved, do your self a favor:

Use silicon dielectric grease in each of the connection at the coil and plugs.
It prevents corrosion (further problems) and ensures maximum power transfer along the connection.

Great for all electrical connections, but especially those with high voltage

sounds like i need to toss a 4.0 in my ranger:shok:

yeh i always use insulated pliers when if I am checking to see if the plugs will arc. I wouldn't be crazy enough to hold onto that thing with bare metal. i would be on the ground in a second!
