Recently under took a small project. Change out the exhaust on my 1991 Ford Explorer, from the Flange in front of the Cat backwards (no emissions here). I ordered some parts from Summit Racing and went to work.
ONLY SPENT $80 !!!!
bringing system up to 2.5 inch, simple summit brand cherry bomb $21 and a Thrush low back-pressure muffler $29 and straight pipe and turn down tip
This is what came out of the rig and the hardest part
Here is the front cat cut in pieces, the flange is oval so can't be used directly.
here middle piece removed
then two pieces welded back together
then we have newly created piece combined with cherry bomb, the pip connecting the two cats was 2.5 already to go
this system just goes straight back and dumps down before the axle. Being a Explorer (station-wagon) a project for another day is to go over the axle and out in stock location. this would work great for a pick up though.
Ended up just a hair louder than I wanted, BUT SOUNDS GREAT
