4.0L OHV Soul crushed and seeking advice on starting problems

My 91 harness plugged right into a 130A from a later (99? 03? I don't remember) Explorer. It is a shorter case so the rear mount bolt isn't in but the 2 front has worked fine for about 8 years now... There was one single wire not used by the newer alternator.

Weird I thought they were completely different generations of alternators and needed wiring adapters. Well I'll have to order an alternator regardless so I'll update

I did just remember one other oddity. My belt was on the long side of working and the newer 130A had a slightly (2mm) smaller pulley. So I ended up replacing the belt at the same time. That's how I found out that all of Oreilly's stock belts at that time were 1/2 longer than Ford specs.

A quick googling says 96+ has the thinner case. I also don't see any options for 130A in the earlier style immediately. That's likely why I did mine like that.
