I've searched Google, I've searched various forums, but I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. Can anyone help me out and letme know if I can hook up an external or bolt up transfer case to a 94 4x2 ranger, manual trans. I'm doing a sas picking up the d44 tomorrow, any help would be appreciated, I'm from a small town and it's difficult to find a ranger in a scrap yard up here or I'd just get a 4x4 trans. Thanks for any input.

You would have to swap internals to get the 4x4 tail housing to bolt up to your transmission, and I think you would have a hard time with drivelines using a divorced transfer case.

The 4x4 2.3L transmissions aren't always easy to find, but the transmission you have is easy to work on, the other problem is the bellhousing is cast onto the transmission housing... the way around this is get a V6 4x4 transmission (3.0L would be easiest to find and be compatible, '90-95 would be best, 4.0 is another option but first gear is taller geared), swap the main and layshaft from the V6 to the 2.3L tranny. Then you can put a Ranger/Bronco II/Explorer transfer case on.
