Someone school me on HIDs??

Not necessarily, you don't run off road lights constantly because they are illegal to do so on road, however there are still douche bags who run HID's constantly on road, even though they shouldn't. Gotta fight fire with fire.

so from what you're saying, since some people drink and drive and don't get caught, i should be able to do it also?

You take something that has nothing to do with the post, and bring it in? Get over yourself and your illegal HID's.

Essentially you both are.

Just buy these. They won't annoy anyone and won't get you a ticket, while improving your lighting.

I have those exact bulbs in my ranger, they are VERY white, and look and perform very well, BUT the part about not annoying others is not true, i cannot travel at night more than a mile with my low beams on and these bulbs without someone flashing their brights at me, thinking that my brights are on. i flash my brights back, (which are BRRRIIIGGGGHHHHTTTT) and they get the picture, but my point is that even with these halogen bulbs, you can still piss people off/blind them.

on a different note, i know 5 or 6 people around here that have HIDs on their trucks and none of them have EVER been ticketed....

just my $.02

I dont know where you guys are from, but hids cant be illegal here, lots of people got them.

theres a few trucks going around with lights that are almost purple, thats stupid. my brother has hids in his truck and they are perfect, not real blue, but not yellow. they are pretty well white. and real bright. i dont care if other drivers think they are annoying, i love being able to see alot better than the factory lights. (yes i have offroad lights but headlights are nice too) so I will be getting a set of HIDs for my BII too

i actually have these now. they work pretty well

if your putting HID headlights in a truck with 46 inch tires, your going to get a lot of people pissed off no matter how low you aim them. in fact, your going to get a ticket by the police, because they are illegal. Just buy some snowplow lights, mount them down low and you'll be good to go.

youre right. when ever i ive it on the roads it does bring attention. i decided that im going to keep my lights to keep the heat off me a little bit. i dont need a ticket for my lights being illegal. and i dont want to piss everyone off either. i know my lights are right in their rearview mirror anyways.
i just wanted it to have the cool blue tint going down the road

the sylvanias have a cool blue set so i'll look into it but i doubt they will be as big as the ultras. when ever i get some offroad lights ill fix up some hids in them cause thats when ill need them more anyways. i got more stuff to worry about like a new transmission than whether my lights look cool or not

ok. bulb K is the temp it burns at. 6k is white, 12 turns blue, under 6 goes yellow. i have 6. its a direct plug and play. they also make them with high low feature. so you still high/low. i got mine for 90 bucks. i also aimed mine up. between that and my train horn, ppl move. :D

I have 6000K and they are the highest you can go before turning blue... in fact they are the brightest HID available. factory HIDs are between 4000K and 5000K, and yes they have ballasts they are just built into the bulb itself and cost $130... each... to replace. The bulbs i got have HID low beams and halogen high beams so if someone flashes me I just switch to halogens. I got mine from HIDextra.com they had a sale on cyber monday i got mine for $30 whole kit including ballasts.

I've been blinded by HIDs before and made the mistake to flash them and got blinded worse by THEIR high beams... I still think HIDs hurt less than if someone leaves their brights on with halogens. As much as it pisses people off, the difference is AMAZING!! all the street signs light up florescent as well as the lane lines. I feel its safer to drive with HIDs because everything jumps out at you... kinda like the difference of watching a DVD and the same movie in 3D on IMAX...

agree with everything about this. the 6000k are what my brother has in his truck and thats what ill be getting. he got his for 60 bucks on the web somewhere. if i wanted 6000k's could i get just the bulbs?

no you will need a kit... the HID bulbs take less energy if i understand it right so the ballast is basically a capacitor it stores energy so they don't flicker from the fluctuating electrical current... i might be just a good b.s.'er but thats how i understand it. What i did is go to a parts store website like autozone.com and find what bulb part number you run... i think yours is a 9004 or 9007 they are the same the ground post is just moved... go on to ebay and type in "9004 HID conversion kit" and look at the kits... they will list all heat ranges (6000K) but they are just "decoy" ads, what i mean is when you buy your kit you will need to tell them what bulb number you are using and what heat range you want the HIDs to be. If you don't want to piss people off go with a 4000K-5000K HID but if you want the brightest white=6000K if you want blue = 8000K-10,000K pink to purple = 11,000K - 15,000K

If you want dual beam HIDs look for a "bi-xenon" HID kit. that will give you a true HID high and low beam. The cheaper kits will only give you one beam or, like mine, HID low and halogen high.

you can also look just for bi-xenon bulbs which are like a halogen where they plug into the factory wiring and don't have ballasts.

Installing the HIDs is simple,
1- unplug and remove stock headlight.
2- mount ballasts in a safe location.
3- carefully put bulb into housing
4- plug ballasts into the stock wiring and plug the bulb into the ballast wiring
5- TURN ON AND ENJOY DAYLIGHT..... AT NIGHT!!!

It is about angles, the only way your beam will go farther down the road is to be aimed higher. It can't sink down to a foot above the pavement and then pop back up to catch something... it has to go in a straightline shot.

I think it is the Wagner equivelant I have in my Ranger and I love them, especially compared to whatever the PO had in the truck.

With sealed beams it is kind of playing with a stacked deck anyway though... :black_eye:

Shit dude bright aftermarket bulbs aren't required for this. I bought a brend new 2010 Kia Forte Koup just after Thanksgiving. I've had a lot of people do this with my low beams on. I can kinda understand a car doing this because it does have some bright bulbs, but most of them were trucks. Hell the last one was a lifted full size 80s Blazer. A different truck that did it even had a HID conversion, or at least those bulbs that look like it.

As for all this talk about HIDs. Yes the swap is illegal on a vehicle that did not come from the factory with them. That said I've even seen cop cars around here with HID conversions on them, so I don't care about the legality of it so much as wether it was a proper conversion or not. The problem conversions are those where someone just plugs a HID system into the factory housings meant for halogen bulbs. The second runner up is when someone buys "projectore" and plugs them in, thinking that all projectors are created equally when they are not. There are two types of projectors sold, those meant for halogen bulbs and those meant for HID bulbs. Quality of components aside the difference is that those meant for HID bulbs have a shield built into them that is there to prevent the light from glaring at an oncoming driver, those made for halogen bulbs do not have this. Unfortunately the differences aren't always clear when shopping for projectors. If planning to install HID's please do not just install them into stock housings, instead spend a little extra and buy proper Projector housings meant for HID lighting. Also please take the time to properly adjust your head lights after installing them, the new bulbs and lenses have different characteristics and may not point in exactly the same place as the old ones did.

As for high and low beam HID, IMO the best option for this when limited to one headlight per side (IE: 83-88 and 89-92 styles come to mind) is to do custom projector housings using mechanical projectors. These use one bulb and balast per side but when you flip to the high beams it physically moves the bulb in the projector housing, thereby changing the beam.

That's my 2 cent. If you want HIDs get them but spend the time and money to do them right, rather than just slapping them in and giving them a bad rap. I for one am planning to convert my first gen with custom mechanical projectors using H4 conversion housings and retrofiring a mechanical projector, just have to do a little research on which will fit best.
