Hey this is what i want to do i want to put full width axles front and rear on a 94 ranger, dropping a 5.0 with a 5 speed manual 4x4 in it i dont want to lift it i want to lower it not super low i want to make a all wheel drive street machine to keep up with the little cars in the canyons. So i guess i wanna make a rally ranger, if anyone can help me out with this just info on what would be a good choice for axles and gear ratio's and if possible 60% rear wheel power and 40% front.

i would like to put a 5.0 in it and keep it all ford but i just want this thing to be fast, and handle great.

i have a ranger with a cage all ready to go so if anyone can help i would really appreciate it.

full size/straight axles are not ideal for a street performing machine. id stick with the TTB or even look into converting it to the SLA used under the newer rangers. the D35 is plenty strong enough to stand up to AWD usage behind your 5.0 with a decent sized tire, and the TTB or SLA will grip the road and ride so much better.

id get ahold of an AWD 5.0 exploder and dump the whole drivetrane into your ranger. unless you want a 5 speed, then some machining to adapt the AWD T-case will be required.

I agree with Wicked, and if you want to go all out, maybe look into IRS from a T-bird or something similar.

This is an absolutely SICK IDEA by the way! I love to rally my 2wd, but awd and lower cog would handle gnarly. I actually dont think you'd need it lowered much.

a lowered AWD ranger is something ive toyed with for a while. combined with a really light and powerful engine (hmm, 2.3 turbo?) it would really scoot and have decent weight balance (relocate the battery and a fuel cell under the bed, behind the rear axle). you should be able to drop the TTB 2" in the front without alot of fuss. further than that and you'd probably have to cut and turn the beams. axle clearence may also start to become a concern (although a ton of travel isnt needed). load the front with a limited slip from a jeep D35 and the rear with a limited slip exploder 8.8. the explorer 4405 t-case has decent power transfer and is plenty tough.

I've had the thought, but never really got too mentally involved. Every dang time i get my mind going it seems I run out of money really fast and am no where even close to achieving my idea. If I could come up with some real sufficient funds Id be all over the Idea.

I hope to see someone develop this Idea. It would be incredible to see the work and product. And I agree on the 2.3T. They are a mean little engine.

Maybe have a ranger hanging with Ken Block's Subie one day lol.

The Explorer 4x4 drive train has been dropped into a '94' several years ago. Guy says he loves it, his car is a 485 rwhp Cobra so he ought to know.
