acquired this truck with everything torn out of it including trans. New slave, clutch, pressure plate, the whole 9 yards. Never even thought twice about making sure the trans was in neutral before stabbing it back in. Everything is back together now minus the driveshaft and I can't get the trans to pop out of gear. Any suggestions? Pull the trans back out? Seems to partially come out but can't get it back to neutral. 94 2.3.

Just moved this into the transmission section.

Did you try running it through the gear prior to putting it together?

Sure didn't. Did however pull trans apart and look everything over and resealed it. Everything looked perfect

Did you try cursing at it?

Did you threaten to pee on it?

3 cans of brain lube and it will know you mean business.

Turn the engine with the starter and drive shafts off.

If you boogered the splines it's too late ..if a two gear bind is happening it usually bumps it loose. Pump the clutch at the same time.

Did not try the pee threat.. will try the alternative but if that doesn't work, pee threats will be thrown. Thank you sir 👍

I had a similar problem in a 97 f150 with the m5od-r2. Driving along and shifted into 3rd. Couldn't get it out of gear. Pulled the shifter and using a long screwdriver pushed the forks? to line up as a mirror image from side to side and front to back.

First thing I tried... no bueno

It appears to be stuck in 1st from what I can see, correct? You need to move the shift rail on the right forward. Tried pushing the clutch pedal in while prying with a screwdriver? May just be bound up and not able to move because the clutch is engaged.

I had one M5OD get stuck in 4th (bought it that way) and disassembled the trans. The 3/4 slider ring has three little rectangle deals that pivot back and forth to engage the synchros, and they were quite worn and the ring would get stuck, it was simply impossible to shift back into any other gear or neutral without disassembling the trans. Additionally, the rear countershaft bearing had exploded and the balls had fallen out. The countershaft was no longer sitting square in the case and was resting on the bottom of the bearing.

If you can't get it back in neutral by any of the above tricks and the shift rails are more or less stuck solid, I'd really suggest pulling it and having a look inside... anything could be wrong with it at this point.

Maybe you really just bought a one speed transmission and not a 5 speed?

They sell those in northeast and southwestish and mostly west east Dakota's.....

If you have a friend to help try turning output shaft back and forth while you try to move the shift rail

The design is done so only 1 gear can be engaged at a time, so 2 of the shift rails must be in Neutral(center) position in order to move the other shift rail forward or backwards from Neutral position
