I've heard that putting solid mounts on your motor really helps it transfer more torque. I'm not 100% sure whether I'll put some on or not, but does anyone know a little bit about them? How much do they help? Any drawbacks?

it doesn't transfer anymore it will just make it react sooner being that the stock mounts flex.
I wouldn't recommend doing that to any daily driver cause it allows the engine vibrations to shake the truck more.

I did it to mine and didn't notice any more vibration than normal...

Alright, just wondered. My friend has a dodge stealth with solid mounts. You can definitely tell they're solid at low speeds and take-off's, It responds instantly.

Just looking for little things I can do here and there that give me a little extra HP and mileage, on a college budget.

I've already done a few things. It has a cold air intake, cherry bomb exhaust (still has cat), and disabled egr. I'm thinking the next step would be ngk plugs and wire. Any other suggestions?

I also read the sticky and found that new headers would help too. But at 200+$, does it really have that significant of a performance increase? I can probably buy a 2.3t from on old turbo coupe for that much O_O.

just remember, it's a good idea to solid mount the trans as well if you're going to solid mount the motor. But i wouldn't think it'd be worth it for power gains.

I noticed a difference when i made an intake for mine, as for exhaust, I'm not into the whole loud exhaust, only reason i replaced mine was b/c the old one was falling apart. Then the new oe replacements kept breaking so i have a magnaflow on it now, which has been good, and i thinks it's a little on the long side for my truck, so it has a nice quiet tone, but i didn't notice any power increase.

For plugs i tell everyone stay with autolite or motocraft to avoid problems. And i doubt you'll have any power gains from changing plugs unless the old ones are toast. And unless the wires are bad, i'd leave them be as well.

You can get a stock header style manifold from a 93-94 ranger from a junkyard for next to nothing and that will help.

Lastly, if you can pick up a turbo motor for $200 dollars, do it! and stop wasting your money on petty crap!

if you want to make the engine react sooner put a turnbuckle on the side of the motor that torques up and then it will react sooner but not cause vibrations.
personally I think it is a waste of time it does nothing to add power and if you can tell the difference on a stock 2.3 I will be surprised.
As for a stock header I bought one off ebay about 2 months ago for $35 and it helped a little but I can't say it helped a lot but was worth trying for $35.
