So the other day someone stole my catalytic converter...

You sir are in dire need of the BBD/BBD12 truck and home security system. I use the BBD everywhere I go and never had anything snatched from my ride since '85. BBD can work two ways...big, black dog (had 2 of those) or big, brown dog (3 so far). I favor the big, brown dog system since brown convinces most folks not to approach the ride...some will try to approach and pet the big, black dog but not more than once. The 12 in the home system is a 12 gauge, loaded in a handy spot...you can use that in the truck, too, but the BBD part has to be excellent before you add in the 12 in a truck system. When I was a spud everyone had a BBD12 truck system, sometimes a BBD12two system...that's 2 12 gauges in a rear window gun rack. Don't you young guys forget this...you must get out and vote everytime if you want the freedoms to use such systems. They are in danger of fading away at present...courtesy of our Borg government.

I usually keep my 12 gauge in my truck but since i turned 18 and my minors firearms license expired ive had to take it out... Still waiting for my adult license to be approved, once i get it though its going back in. Hopefully soon to be joined by an sks, as for the gun rack idea, the rcmp dont like you to have those and ive had enough trouble from people seeing my guns and freaking out to even try that.

I was in my local parts store getting a new lower rad hose. The store is in a strip mall with alot of stuff around, i was in there 15 minutes and when i came out i started my truck and it was way louder than normal. (Scared the living hell out of me) i look underneath and i had no cat, they had cut the tubing on the engine side and unbolted it from the muffler in 15 minutes in a busy parking lot at 11:30 in the morning.

Did you call the cops? No video cameras in the area? I find that hard to believe since everywhere we go we see video surveillance cameras all over the place. You need to review the tapes.

I tried checking the tapes buy they said the strip where i had parked was the one spot in the lot without a camera on it... And didnt bother calling the cops because it didnt really seem worth it, i was going to a wreckers that day anyways so i didnt really care, mostly just thought it was kind of funny.

And the wrecker took pity on me and sold me the parts i wanted including the cat for $5. So it didnt effect my wallet, and it'll give me something to do in auto shop when i get back to school.

cops here were not interested in helping me find the kids who stole my sons (locked) $1800 mountain bike, even when we gave them the names of the 3 kids who did it, and several witnesses that saw them riding it 15 minutes afterwards.

so we had to resort to "other methods" to get it back. It worked.

so no, they wont be interested in a stolen cat.

And a shotgun in an unattended truck prevents theft how?

Must not have much salt up there, you couldn't get a wrench on the remains of the bolts on a 30yo exhaust around here. It would have been a half day battle if they were lucky (and didn't just zip through it with a sawzall)

Ok, that rifle or shotgun visible in the back window....lol. Yea!!! Smash and grab there just waiting there. I know of 4 times in this area where some dumb s.o.b. with that shotgun hanging on display lost their weapon in a parking lot smash and grab. Not real smart there. An alarm works best most of the time. As we know there are those smash and grab idiots who see something and want it more then we do. I have tinted windows on all of our rides and I do't leave anyting in site. If you are close by, you can hear your alarm going off. I have a pager alarm that notifies me if my alarm is going off. So far it has gone off only once and when I went out to the parking lot some guys dog had jumped up into the truck bed and was resting sweetly!! No harm there. I had the tail gate down to load up some bags of lava rock and was checking out at my Lowes when it happened. At least I know it works....lol

Repost for clarification:

Note that the 12 gauge is optional in the BBD auto security system...best added after your BBD is in excellent working condition. Most smash-n-grabbers won't venture near a truck/car with the BBD system in place.

cats are stolen all the time at the shop, I work part time at a semi body shop.. they break in and steal the cats off the box trucks ALL the time.

The dealer my brother works at has a cat stolen every once in awhile, starters less often. Once somebody went through the motions of helping themselves to the frame mounted fuel pump on an old cruddy Bronco. :icon_confused:

years ago, my local ford dealer had an entire transmission stolen out of a brand new crown vic, sitting outside on the lot.

salesman went to start it, no start. mechanic went outside to look at it, no transmission (or starter)

somebody knew exactly what they wanted, and exactly how to get it.

the GM dealer here used to sell a few GMC heavy trucks, and the wheels and tires would get stolen off them all the time 11r22.5 or 11r24.5, they would fit practically any other trucks on the road with steel rims.

I think that the local Wally you needed the police to ask for the video. So you might have had to have the police ask for the video. Also just because there isn't video of your truck doesn't mean there isn't video of the perps. They had to come and go some how, plus their carrying a hot convertor. A truck pulls in and leaves a couple minutes later. Do you think they had anything to do with it?

Lol, now I'm scared for my cats. I need an anti cat-burglar system. No pun intended.

Im not saying a shotgun deters theft, just commenting on what he had said. I don't have it visible anyways. Theres hardly any salt here, we get snow once or twice a year and it only lasts a few days, it mostly just rains. I barely have any rust on my 24yo ranger so it wouldnt be too hard to undo the bolts.
