Hi all,
Newb here from SoCal. I'm in the process of picking up a 95 XLT Supercab 2wd from my Father in Law. It's basically free (gotta pay some DMV fees. ok a few years worth). It has more miles on it than I was told, but at 135K, I will still give it the "low" mile nod. I'm going to go through the whole "ain't been run in a few years" start up proceedures. Also need to do something about the dryrotted and flat tires. Hmmm, sounds like an excuse for tire and wheel shopping. I'll be bringing it home as soon as I get DIL's F350 out of my driveway.

Welcome! Plans or just a dd?

Mostly a DD with the ability to get us to our favorite fishing holes. Deb (my better half) DDs her Grand Wagoneer (which gets us to the tougher fishing holes), but the mileage on that bad boy is hard at the pumps. I see an LS swap in it's future, which would give it some serious legs. Our yearly trip to the Eastern Sierras usually turns into a thousand mile round trip. With the GW's 8ish mpg it only makes sense to dial in the Ranger.

Current plans are to get her up and running again. Change the timing belt and water pump whether it needs it or not. The only big issue is getting her smog ready and figure out why the clutch pedal goes to the floor. Probably not in that order.

I'm going to start with a 2" lift on the nose to level her up. I think I've read way too much about that and have screwed myself into the ground. Every time I think I'm ready to pull the trigger, I come up on the "Not for extended cab" thing. I'm trying to read up and figure out if Exploder or V6 springs might give me the bump I need.

My biggest decision right now is tire size. Common sense tells me to go with 235/75r15s, but I'm thinking of 265s or 31x10.50-15s just look darn cool. The rims I picked up are 15x8s, so I have my options, but man, it's a hard pick. I restore cars and build hotrods for a living, you would think I would be better at this on my own stuff.

Sometimes we are our own worst critics. Just sit back and look at it as if you were building it for someone else. Forget that it's going to be gracing your driveway. You'll have a lot more fun that way! Oh, and welcome to the site! As I said on FABO, I've been here for awhile, and while I mostly lurk the information here is great!

But, but, it's so much easier when I'm spending someone else's money...:D

(Oh, and I found a good deal on some 265 Discoverers.....)
