so is this impossible?

ya, I love to upgrade mine lol....maybe hes runing special high speed heat dissipating greaseless bearings......

yeah, the actual speed would be higher.

it can't be because of his tires, because i did this multiple times when i had the oem tires, i got the same thing as the picture on page 1. when i got there i was only at around 4k (5th gear) on the tach and it just cut back when i had the pedal on the floor going down a hill. (almost like i shifted down half a gear, if that makes sense)

We always unhook VSS on the race truck, actually take the whole drive out and just plug it.We,ve noticed no difference in the idleing or running of the truck(94 electrics).I do know that we run 58-6200 every week, but run over that and it shuts down the rpm,s.I don't think it shuts down the fuel it seems more like it shuts down the spark to a plug.(yes almost like shifting down a gear).I know when I miss a shift from 3rd to 4th and hit second at 5500,it will turn the tach to 9500+ and stay running on 3 cyl till I shut it off and reboot the putor.(really not recommened)

what engine is it?

i know for a fact my '93 3.0's rev limiter is at 5200...ive been there.

and it doesnt kill spark, it alternatly cuts fuel from cylinder banks to slow the engine down....this is how the rev limiter on all eec-iv vehicles works.

i have a 94 2.3 ranger stock motor that hits 80 on the highway full throttle and takes about 2 minutes to get there 5th gear.
i honostly never heard of a "speed limiter" on my ranger, ive hit the rev limiter messing around one day and snapped my timing belt sitting at a stop light. (never will do that again) and going that fast even if it has "upgraded suspension" which i would never waste money on with a 2.3 n/a under the hood. I would be honostly scared to drive 90+ mph in it, im scared to do 80mph and that takes forever to do when im on the highway and im even in flat florida no hills!! Is the "upgradable wheelbearings" you speak of mean when you go to advance auto and tommy behind the counter says you want the cheap ones or the $35.99 ones mean upgradable by anychance??
by the sounds of it to me you probbly dont have enough fuel pressure with all these "aftermarket mods" to support that kind of crazy driving you do.
whats that thing run in the quarter??

Burying the Speedo

I buried mine (needle at 6 O'clock) on a basically flat road - '94 2.3L w/ 5 spd 2WD stock save a broken thermostat - 150K. Ruined a tire (egg shaped?). :fie:
