so i made my self proud well sort of

dude i learn stuff every day,

if i have a sub that handles 400w rms would a 500w rms amp fry it or would the gain have to be turned down alot?

this is soooooo complicated its rediculous...

Peak:Maximum power, all sub can take
RMS:The constant power that should flow

If you have a 400w RMS sub it can take probably a decent more power than 500w. Trouble is you have to make sure you have it wired at the correct ohms are running out of the amp. Also, another factor is DVC(dual voice coils:dual 2 ohms, dual 4 ohms) or SVC (single voice coil). Sealed box will always get more bang for your buck.

the "rear" rca are set up for one of two reason, one alot of times they are all ready ran thur a LPF, and second on the deck it self it will give you control of the sub with out effecting the rear speakers.:icon_thumby:

The way mine works is the headunit runs into both of my amps and my sub's are controlled directly from the amp.

well your subs are controled from your amp is misleading, even if you have remote sub control.

most HU have 4 sets of paired wires one for each of your speakers, now some have 2 or three sets of rca's one set being your subs and the other set being eather 2 ch out or 4 ch out depending on your HU set up, i have 3 sets,
subs L R
Front L R
rear L R so i have one 4 ch amp for my highs and one single ch amp for my lows, and my head unit controls the vol which is matched by the gain and sound is made
