So I emailed ford motor company...

I don't know what the sales dopes, sry, sales *reps* are saying up front, but the line they are feeding us in the shop about no diesels in smaller vehicle is that the factories aren't tooled to make them and that it would cost more than they think they can make on it to either build/retool a factory here to properly build them or to import the engines from Europe. They are aware that the demand is there, they just don't think that they will be able to charge enough for them to cover their costs in setting up the infrastructure, and they don't want to trust yet another new engine to NaviStar right now after the 6.4L debacle.

I am betting they are having problems getting the thing priced to where somebody that doesn't want a full size truck price tag will still get it. They shelved the in house built F-150 diesel after fears that with the shrinking truck market not enough people would pony up the extra dough for a diesel. And that engine was very close to being ready for production too...

If they do bring out a diesel it will be with the next generation Ranger, and since they haven't even released what it might even look like, I doubt the engine choices are public knowlege yet either.

Really diesels are not as popular as they used to be anyway. Dad is looking for a V-10 and they are not to be had... bunch of nice very low mile diesels for sale though.

The 6.4 hasn't had many problems, radiators leaking and injector failures have been the only major recalls to date. The reason Ford and Navistar are parting company is the 6.0 ordeal which was a mess.

Ford could have a small 50 state emissions compliant engine if they really wanted to. it would take very little to make the UK 3.0L TD 50 state compliant.

BMW and Audi both have 50 state legal diesels and the CRD in the Liberty will also be 2010 compliant.

there hasn't been much love for the 6.0 where I work either. we have 2 E450s that have had a few problems, one of them blew an oil passage in one of the heads(before I was there) and one of them refuses to start when hot and pukes loads of white smoke and has no power when cold. Also have an F550 that has blown 2 intercoolers apart but I think that is more due to the piss poor design (plastic crimped on sidetanks) Don't really see too much in the TSB packets we receive about the 6.4s but it seems nearly every one has some sort of 6.0 problem in it.

Let's all meet here and make our demands. They won't be able to hide from us then!

Thats a small ass entrance for such a big ass building. I wonder if there's a hidden meaning behind that? I think so!

A diesel Ranger would be cool- but not with the current and future emissions BS that has to be included on any engine built nowadays. I've got an '09 work truck with a 15 liter "DD15" engine in it- what a piece of crap. No power, no fuel mileage, all kinds of stupid gadgets all over the block doing God knows what, and the initial expense to purchase was unreal. It has a "soot incinerator" on it too, uses fuel to burn it out during a regeneration process about every 350 miles or twice a day for me. The damn thing is a nightmare. My '04 had tons more power, better mileage, and only had EGR issues to deal with. This thing is crap, and I'll bet anything built in a smaller version would be also. Thank YOU al gore and the leftist a-holes who mandated this crap under false "greenhouse gas" BS...

i got to look at one of those flippin DD15 engine when our local dealer/vendor did an open house, I accidently insulted one of the designers! as I stood there looking at it he walked up and asked what I thought of it, so I told him it looked like a piece o' crap and the dumbass that designed should be kicked in the nuts! He asked why, to which I replied it was designed by a pencil pusher not a mechanic, looked like an absolute P.I.T.A. to work on. I found out later that he was designer, and it is indeed a pain to work on!

Diesels are overrated.

Farm tractors, and big rigs, are the only two places they belong.

later,
Dustin
