So, brand new 2.9 engine, forced induction options?

if you get a ohv 4.0 you should be able to use your transmission. that is if it is a 5 speed you will just need to swap in a 4.0 clutch. And it will look like it is factory. The 4.0 came in the gen 2 so it is the same truck minus the front end body parts.

well, factory look in the sense of quality of the swap, not if it came there stock.

i have an A4LD, not an M5, so i would need a new transmission.

The 4.0 swap can look very factory and not half assed. The smog referee thought mine looked factory! :icon_thumby: It bolted up to the stock 2.9 mounts, y-pipe and A4ld, all I had to change was the torque convertor. That being said, my A4LD was built up to Explorer specs and then even added some extra goodies like a shift kit.

do i need the lifters with the cam? they were going to replace those anyway.

how much for the cam?

Yes you do, they are a calibrated set, and last I checked he wanted $100 for the set. I can probably throw that bad boy in a flat rate box and have it there for $10.

about 1250 for the engine.

i'd spend more than that converting everything to play nice with the 4.0, because i refuse to do anything half assed or take shortcuts.

if the 4.0 swap doesn't look factory, it's not getting done, basically.

I have seen several 4.0 swaps that look surperb!!! It is how you do it. That turbo won't look stock.....

it's not about looking 'stock' it's about looking like it belongs, quality workmanship.

because a used 4.0 cost as much as a new 2.9 and i'd rather not use a junkyard engine.

Lol, anyways, Going back to your original quote, again.... The average used 4.0 is not going to cost anywhere near $1,250.

by the time i'm done doing the swap, it will.

that is what i meant.

My Vote.. Boost the piss outa the 2.9, its your money and your truck. And if you do boost it, Megasquirt is the way to go. You will be happy you did.
