so any diabetics?

Type 2 here. It runs in my life on my mothers side. Gotta love genetics.

I'm type 2 as well and am the 5th generation in my family to get it. My mom and I were diagnosed the same month a few years back and I was diet controlled until last January. I looked into becoming a chaplain in the KS Guard last month, but they didn't like the diabetes part so my goal for the coming year is to get off of the pills and be diet controlled again.

Not me or the wife, but our dog is. Two shots a day on a sliding scale. I originally got volunteered to give the shots, when the dosages weren't helping our vet recommended a doc with more specific experience in this area. He gave us a chart and we would have to check her urine daily. Thank GOD I give the shots, the wife follows her in the back yard in the morning with a bowl to capture the urine. I'm sure our neighbors think that she's gone over the edge!

A dog's blood sugar is like a persons. She was peaking at over 600, after we went on the sliding scale she registers between 90 to 130. The dosages vary from 8 or 9 units to 19 to 20 units. This was all triggered by a thyroid problem. She's only like 8 years old.

Oh, and the vet was curious as to how my wife identified that the dog was diabetic. She told him she saw it on a M*A*S*H episode, she noticed that the dog's water intake had increased exponentially, he tested her and was pretty shocked that at her age, her blood sugar was that high.

my dad is type 2 and my Mother's mother was type 2. they were the first on either side. I get a glucose test done every year because I had 5 out of the 6 symptoms ...... ofcourse those could also be explained away as the same 5 you would have as a 2 pack a day smoker.

but right now I am more concerned with the cancer coming back.

Type 2 with shots since 07. Thought it was the end of the world but now, eh, second nature taking care of it.

yeah...i hate having it..its messed me and my life up big time

My dad has been type 2 for years and just got put on shots last week. Doesnt help he is over weight and doesnt do anything to help himself. I try to get him to eat better but he wont.

now you know why I am cranky most of the time.

the Cancer was no big deal, it was caught way early and the doc used some kind of laser thingy to cut it out of my throat ....... it was even out patent. I just don't want the throat cancer coming back.... so I no longer smoke. since I no longer smoke the 5 out of the 6 diabetic warning signs that I had before are now gone. I took it as a warning......

I was diagnosed before I went in and controlled it by diet. I was tested 3 times while I was in but they only test for type 1 for deployment reason. Do not let this stand in your way of serving your country. Just remember what they do not know cannot hurt you. Do you best to get back on the diet though.

Not yet but I'm working on it.
