Snowed like heck here today.. Supposed to be a dusting.. Ended up a few inches. I drove the B2 in it this morning and then halfway through switched to the wife's Ranger. I was on my way to Randy M.'s house and saw where a nissan frontier slid through a stop and headfirst into the ditch. It was a steep ditch... I felt bad so i stopped and said I would try and get him out. The intersection was a sheet of ice.. I got out and immediatly had to catch myself from falling. I hooked the tow rope onto the ball on his bumper, and the safety chain hooks on Heather's Ranger. Popped it into 4-LO and tried. For a second it wouldn't move, but then with all 4's spinning it slowly came up and almost out....when Heather said, LOOKOUT!.....

Here comes a cadillac sliding through the same intersection that claimed the very truck I was towing... It was within 10 feet of me and sliding right toward us... I threw the truck into reverse, and nailed it. It shifted hard and back I went, the car within a few inches, even as I backed up.

The kid who was driving the truck I was towing was not even in the truck trying to help back it out, so his truck then slammed back down to the bottom of the ditch. I came within inches of being creamed! So I had to start over and got him pulled out with a lot of wheelspin.... He thanked me, and I turned around, after metioning this site to another dude who stopped in a sweet white lifted ranger. As I pulled up to the dreaded intersection and tried to stop... YOu guessed it, I slide through, so I cut the wheel and gunned it so the front tires would pull me around the corner...

What a mess, but I cannot believe I pulled him up the embankment, with him not even in the truck trying to back it out on it's own power, on a sheet of ice!!:D

Sweet! sounds like fun! you gotta keep your camera close on days like those! haha.

about the only reason I wish I had another 4wd instead of a 2wd but definitely good you didn't get creamed by the cadillac

A few inches? A FEW INCHES??!! We have more like a few FEET in some places up north here. Heck, we are supposed to get upwards of 8inches here tonight! I LOVE IT :icon_bounceblue: I got myself stuck today as well, I was plowing snow with my bumper because I thought that I just didnt have anything more important to do than to drive into the woods all by my lonesome and see where a trail that I had never been on went to. I got myself home though.

I am glad you didnt get creamed and you were able to help the guy. And I hope this white ranger you speak of comes aboard and posts some pics up.

I thought swearing wasn't allowed in thread titles.

We got the same crap here as Jspafford, it's not the snow that's the problem, it snowed then drizzled, which created sheets of ice everywhere. Lots of 2wd trucks going 15mph... in 40mph zones.. I had a lot of fun passing around them in my Tempo.

justin was it the road randy lives off of? i remember that road having a particularly steep and deep embankment for some reason.

I understand what you mean when you say you got out and had to catch yourself from slipping. Its stupid here, it will snow real good, then we will get a warm bit of weather off the ocean and it will start raining. then overnight it goes into the teens. everything becomes a sheet of ice.

The same thing happened to me last winter. Another ranger took a 90*turn too fast, and slid into the at least 10' deep storm drain runoff ditch thingy. He had rolled over, and landed on his wheels. I was comin home from wheelin, so I offered to pull him out. Locked the hubs in, threw it in 1st-LOrange, and pulled him out, up the ditch, while it was snowing, without spinning a tire! I think that's why Ford keeps making rangers.. they're great recovery vehicles!

Believe me, I spun.... I minds well have been parked on a skating rink. The truck has a L/S in the rear, and as far as I could tell both front's were spinning also.

I had my head stuck out the door looking back and I could just start to smell the tires getting hot on the ice when I finally got him out. The truck was sliding back and forth from side to side as the tires were spinning on the ice, but as long as it was moving forward, even very little I didn't let off....

I think it's the combo of the L/S, and the Yokohama Geolander tires, those things have some major sipes in them from the factory.

we didnt get as much here in marion just a 1" dusting. put my 500+ pounds in the back for when/if the deep stuff gets here. been damn cold though. 20 right now.

there's only about 2" here in oil city,pa. i haven't put any weight in the bed yet and only have problems dealing with the 20* temps, suprizingly i get around prety well so far with nothing in the bed.:yahoo:
