smoke stack

I'm thinking about plumbing a functional smoke stack ( like off a diesel) to come out just behind the drivers side ( only a single, no duals). I'm going to run 2 1/4" pipe from my flowmaster 40 series up to a 4" stack that will be 36" long. Has anyone done this or can think of a reason not to do it? btw no emissions in my county, if that matters.

Do it if you want to, I think they belong on diesel's mostly but it's your truck.

I wouldnt do it... but if its your style, Go ahead I guess. just make sure you turn pipe at top, or put on a 'flapper' or whatever the heck it is

No reason not to if that's what you want, but like Sprag said, make sure and put a flapper or turn-downs on top to keep water and crap-in-general out of your exhaust.

Personally, I have always liked straight stacks (or a single) on trucks, but if you put one on, make sure to put a flapper or a curve in it. As someone who works on tractors and stationary equipment, I have seen firsthand what water and shit in the exhaust can do.

I hate them on pickups but with a flatbed they are cool. A 4" is going to look big maybe. I want to put one on when I get around to putting a little flatbed on.

Emissions are federal so just because your county doesn't check doesn't mean it's legal. As long as all the equipment is there you can use a tuba for a tailpipe if you want.

Me likey stacks.....and ya, mine are gonna be straight. The cummins I have is the same engine as this one...just a lil more 'bombed' and the industrial version. :headbang: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkGm79C-mmY

I put one on my offroad only ranger. I looked for one and they are very pricey. So i just used the outside of an old auger, it's 3.5 inch diameter and i painted it black and cut an angle on it. I also looked for a curve to put at the end but they're pricey too. When i'm not driving it i just cover the exhaust with an old hi-C can. and my exhaust consists of a glasspack and no converter (didn't have one when i got it) and with the auger exhaust it's freakin loud. and when you really mash it, it's insane. and my motor smokes a bit, so that's cool too.

It's a really hefty fine for screwing with emissions systems on post-1967 (pretty sure it's '67) vehicles. It's either $10,000 or 100,000 fine and up to 5yrs behind bars! Also, if you trade the vehicle in later at a dealership, they are required by law to turn you in for it not having cats. Same rule applies for if you sell it to another person without cats. This obviously doesn't necessarily mean that they WILL turn you in, but be aware of the potential consequences before you get too gung-ho.

i also think stacks on pickups looks very retarded.

but its up to you.

one thing i wanted to mention was your drivers side exit. there arent many places to cross the passenger side bank to the drivers side before the rear axle. ive thought about crossing under the rear transfer case output, but i would be worried that the heat may shorten the life of the seal.

I'm not talking about cutting the cats out, I was just concerned that if I did have to get emissions that there would be an issue where the "tailpipe" is supposed to be located ( i heard a rumor that in places you do have to get emissions that the tail pipe needs to extend past the rear axle) . also i would go from the passenger side to the driver side via a pipe in the bed of the truck.

crossing the pipe inside the bed sounds a little messy to me, but its your call.

as for the emissions, it would depend on the area. some areas require the exhaust to run the same route it ran from the factory....some places just require you to pass the "sniffer".
